Children’s Employees Go Bald for Childhood Cancer Research

Children’s employees went above and beyond this past month and were a part of raising over $17,000 to help childhood cancer research. What did they do? They shaved their heads to support kids who experience hair loss due to chemotherapy as a part of St. Baldrick’s 20th annual head shaving fundraiser in early March.

Normally, this is a larger event where there is a crowd cheering them on at a local restaurant. This year, they had to go virtual due to COVID protocols but the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center team still made sure to be a part of it!

We had a team committed to find a way to still do it together. “We wanted to do it together, so we organized our own event!” said Anne, who has participated in St. Baldrick’s for the past 4 years. “We found a wonderful pair of stylists at Union 16 Salon—it was absolutely marvelous!”

For all four of these Children’s employees, the fresh cuts not only represent a great cause, but they are also powerful reminders of patients, families and friends—ones they’ve lost, those who are still battling cancer and those who are cancer free.

We are so proud of our employees and the impact this small but courageous action makes on their patients, the community, and childhood cancer research!
