Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s Response to COVID-19 : We are in this Together!

With so much uncertainty in today’s climate surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta continues to remain steadfast in providing the best possible care for kids throughout the state of Georgia and beyond. Children’s has and will continue to keep the health and safety of their patients, families, and community as a priority.  Children’s is taking a number of measures to ensure that this continues. New restrictions on hospital visitation are now in place, to see that spreading of germs in and out of the hospital remain minimized. However, despite new restrictions that must be implemented, Children’s recognizes the importance of patient and family experience. Children’s will do all they can to not allow these unfortunate circumstances to negatively impact the patient’s time at the hospital. For example, Children’s “The Zone” is an entire floor of the hospital dedicated to creative activities such as crafts, video & board games, and fun events hosted by third parties. While visits to The Zone are now limited, Child Life Specialists at Children’s worked together to create a Zone To-Go program, where patients can pick from a variety of activities to be delivered to their room.

As a well known institution throughout the Atlanta community, Children’s has also provided several online resources for families. These resources include articles on what symptoms to look for if you suspect your child has COVID-19, simple steps your family can take to reduce germ spread, and how to talk to young kids about COVID-19 and its impact on the world. Children’s is also using their social media platforms to educate the public on how they can keep themselves, their families, and their communities safe during this time. Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Dan Salinas, participated in a Q&A session that was posted on Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s Instagram Page.

In a time where there are constant changes, Children’s outlook remains the same : we are in this together!
