Children’s is thrilled to introduce Queso, the newest addition to our Canines For Kids team!

Queso, a 2-year-old golden retriever, gets his name from the popular Tex-Mex dip. He will join the Scottish Rite Acute Rehabilitation team alongside handlers Jessa Fagan, Manager, Rehabilitation, Scottish Rite; Liz Brown, Orthopedic/Rehabilitation Clinic Specialist, Scottish Rite; and Casey Schambach, Physical Therapist, Scottish Rite.

Together with his handlers, Queso will participate in therapeutic sessions with patients to address goals and achieve functional outcomes related to gross motor skills, ambulation, fine motor skills, activities of daily living and emotional state regulation. He will also support in-bed mobility activities in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and many other areas of the hospital.

“Everyone who has met and worked with Queso so far agrees he is a gently, intuitive dog who knows how to comfort and spread love,” Jessa said. “We are excited to partner with him and share his unique gifts, fulfilling our Mission of making kids better today and healthier tomorrow.”
